The 10 biggest Brit nomination snubs of 2017

    1964

The Brit Awards take place next Wednesday, and as ever, they’re a feast what’s good, great and fairly decent in the world music. But not everyone can be a winner. In fact, not everyone can even be a nominee.

As we build up the big day, let’s reflect on who didn’t make the cut for 2017…

    1. Olly Murs

Olly Murs, pop’s man the people, go-to cheeky chappie sort and six-time Brit nominee released the best single his career to date in 2017 ‘You Don’t Know Love’, FYI], but won’t be winning any awards for it any time soon.

Olly was booked to perform at the show’s launch in January, but it all got a bit awks when it emerged he hadn’t actually been nominated for ANY Brits this year. So like any normal human being scorned, he didn’t go, and will be watching whatever’s on the other side come Wednesday.

    2. Frank Ocean

With the anticipation for his album release surpassed only by the second coming, RnB star Frank’s Blonde was a thing enveloped in hype. And it was a thing beauty, although some people didn’t think it was as good as his last album, Channel Orange.

He didn’t bag himself a nomination for International Male. But it wasn’t just the Brits: Frank wasn’t nominated for a Grammy at last weekend’s ceremony – but only because he didn’t submit Blonde for nomination in the first place. Last year Kanye promised a boycott the ceremony if Frank wasn’t up for an award, saying, “I’ll tell you right now, if his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys.” True to his word, he didn’t.

    3. Kanye West

Speaking Kanye, he didn’t get himself in the shortlist for International Male at the Brits either. Kanye missed out to Bon Iver, Bruno Mars, Drake, Leonard Cohen and The Weeknd in that category too, despite The Life Of Pablo being named in most end year “Best Of” lists. But nothing could top his 2015 Brits performance ‘All Day’, when he got himself an in with the best the grime scene and brought big names like Skepta, Krept & Konan and Stormzy onstage to perform with him. So he’s probably not hugely fussed.

    4. Lady Gaga

What’s a girl to do to catch a break around here? Her latest album Joanne didn’t exactly set the world alight because she *gasp* did something a bit unexpected (ie didn’t bring out an album 11 ‘Bad Romance’s). But… girl did land herself the Super Bowl half-time show gig earlier this month, which is pretty much the biggest thing you can do on the planet, seeing as 115.5 million pairs eyes are on you unless they’ve gone for a wee or to boil the kettle.
