After debuting a myriad unreleased new music through their 2017 BBC essential mix, Soulwax have announced a new full length LP titled ‘Essential’, set to be released in June this year through their own Belgium-based label DEEWEE. The album, consisting 12 new tracks, were produced specifically to be aired on the radio without any prior notice to listeners. With DEEWEE being one quirkiest crews in the club sphere, they have once again proved themselves to be one the most hard-working labels in Europe.
Juxtaposing live instrumentation with synthetic analogue landscapes, the rock band turned electronic pop group reportedly spent two weeks prior to their essential mix holed away in their studio producing an hour’s worth new material exclusively to be aired on the radio. After looking back on the radio show, Soulwax decided to release the essential mix as an album. The trio commented on the album saying “When we were approached to make an Essential Mix for the BBC in May 2017, we chose to do what every sane human being would do, we decided to lock ourselves into our studio for two weeks and make an hour new music based around the word ‘Essential’, instead preparing a mix already existing music. The product this otherwise unwise decision is something we ended up being very proud and is now being released on the piece plastic you’re are currently holding in your hands.”
The band’s sixth album ‘Essential’ will be released on June 22nd through DEEWEE. In the meantime you can listen to ‘Essential Four’ below.
