Instagram already has a virtual monopoly on the photo sharing side social media, but now it is set to venture into the realm music, thanks to their upcoming app functions. Code found within Instagram’s Android app informs us that ‘music stickers’ for its Stories function will soon allow users to search and add songs to their Insta-stories. Similarly, Instagram is testing auto-detection capabilities to capture tracks playing in the background stories and posts.
Although Instagram hasn’t ficially announced these updates, this music-centric shift is in line with recent updates which allow users to directly share posts from third-party apps such as Spotify and Soundcloud on their Stories. This has followed Facebook’s recent move to secure licensing deals with Sony, Warner and Universal.Instagram user Jane Wong was briefly able to test these features on her account, which auto-detected a song she was playing in the background on her iPhone. However, she wasn’t able to utilise the ‘music sticker’ feature. Poor Jane.
Stay tuned…the insta-gration our generation continues.
